American Kestrel

A small falcon about the size of a Mourning Dove.  Clear vertical black stripes on the face make ID fairly easy from a distance.  Males have a deep blue-gray and brown pattern on their back and wings with a black and white pattern beneath.  When a Kestrel spreads its wings into the sun you can see the unmistakable burgundy glow.  Fond of perching in high unobstructed areas they zoom to the ground to grab lizards and insects and have been seen chasing doves.
